One Raffles Place
This site-specific art commission project is for the new Tower 2 of One Raffles Place in the heart of Singapore’s financial and commercial hub. The new One Raffles Place Tower 2 has introduced to Singapore for the first time large scale sculptures by acclaimed artists Tony Cragg and Hiroshi Senju, a contemporary granite sculpture by local leading artist Han Sai Por, and not forgetting Anna Chiara Spiellini’s marble sculpture.
Tony Cragg (b. 1949, UK) is an artist of great international acclaim. He attended the Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, Cheltenham College, and subsequently graduated from the Royal College of Art, London. Elected Royal Academician in 1994, Cragg has received numerous awards and recognitions internationally including the Tate Gallery’s Turner Prize in 1988, the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to art in 2003, the Piepenbrock Award for sculpture in 2003, first prize for Best Sculpture at the Beijing Biennale in 2005, and the Praemium Imperiale for Sculpture awarded by the Japanese imperial family in 2007.

Hiroshi Senju (b. 1958, Japan) is amongst the most celebrated contemporary artists in Asia. Senju is the first Asian artist to receive an individual fine arts award at the Venice Biennale for his acclaimed Waterfall paintings in 1995. Senju’s recent works of magnitude include the waterfall monuments at the international terminal of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, the cultural hall at Shibuya, and the Japanese style walls for the 2010 APEC conference. Museums that house his work include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Toyama Museum of Contemporary Art in Kushiro, Japan. Senju is presently President of the Kyoto University of Art and Design.
Han Sai Por (b. 1943, Singapore) is a key contemporary artist in Singapore well-known for sculptures of figurative and organic forms carved in stone. Trained in Singapore and the UK, Han has exhibited internationally in Southeast Asia, China, South Korea, North America and Europe. Recipient of the 1995 Cultural Medallion, the highest Singapore cultural award for artistic excellence, her works are collected by the Singapore Art Museum and the National Art Gallery of Singapore, and permanently displayed in prominent locations including Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3, UK’s Portland Sculpture Park, Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden and Japan’s Uchinomi-cho Town Hall Garden.
Anna Chiara Spellini was a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona (Italy). She has forged a reputation for her figurative works in bronze and marble and have also explored abstract and semi-abstract forms. The attributes that have characterised her works include a subtle elegance of form, the use of premium material (eg high grade marble) and love for detail without fussy elaboration. Spellini is regarded as a ‘special commissions’ sculptor, in that much of their portfolio is formed through private and exclusive commissions for collectors and permanent exhibitions or displays (as opposed to active exhibitions or showings at galleries). To date, she has created over 400 special commissions.
